Following France’s test of the nuclear-capable M51.3 ballistic missile, the Kremlin accused the European Union of “militarisation” and of escalating its confrontation with Russia. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow would remain vigilant and take the measures necessary to protect its security.
The French test comes amid mounting tensions between Russia and European countries. Nuclear deterrence is consequently returning to the centre of Europe’s security concerns.
